BEIRUT, LEBANON (11:45 A.M.) – Israel accepted responsibility for the sinking of a Lebanese refugee ship in the Summer of 1982, a new report said on Friday.
According to a report from Israel’s Channel 10, an Israeli submarine fired several missiles at the refugee ship as it was traveling near the coast of Tripoli in the Summer of 1982.
As a result of the attack, 25 out of the 56 people on board were killed.
The Israeli attack was carried out by gal-type submarine and it was dubbed “Operation Dreyfus”.
The Channel 10 report said that the Israeli submarine captain thought the refugee ship was carrying PLO fighters.
However, the primary objective of Operation Dreyfus was to prevent the Syrian Navy from using Lebanese territorial waters to transport military supplies.
