The Islamist rebel factions that make-up “Jaysh Al-Fateh” (Army of Conquest) have launched their largest assault on the predominately Shi’i towns of Kafraya and Al-Fou’aa recently, targeting the civilian-led “National Defense Forces” (NDF) from every flank inside this rugged area of the Idlib Governorate.

In conjunction with the intensity of their assault on Al-Fou’aa and Kafraya; this offensive has been the most successful attack for the Jaysh Al-Fateh combatants from Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham and the Syrian Al-Qaeda factions “Jabhat Al-Nusra” and “Jund Al-Aqsa”, as they have captured the hilltop at Tal Al-Khirbah and a number of checkpoints around the targeted areas.

However, these gains have come at a great cost for the Islamist rebels, as the preliminary reports from the National Defense Forces inside  the towns of Al-Fou’aa and Kafraya have shed light on the significant death toll that has plagued Jaysh Al-Fateh’s progress at this volatile front in northern Syria.

According to a military source in Joureen, the National Defense Forces killed over 100 enemy combatants from Jaysh Al-Fateh at Al-Fou’aa and Kafraya; this total includes 31 foreign fighters from Uzbekistan, Chechnya, Tunisia, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Turkey, Jordan, Sudan, and Morocco.
