DAMASCUS, SYRIA (1:15 A.M.) – Several key sites were recaptured by Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham (HTS) and its allies on Wednesday as jihadist militants reversed some recent Syrian Arab Army (SAA) gains in central Syria.
HTS not only managed to keep hold of Maardes, but also seized the neighboring village of Iskandariyah after conducting a suicide bombing on a nearby hill.
On a separate axis, HTS – supported by Jaish al-Nasr (Free Syrian Army faction) – retook all lost points south of Halfaya, including the village of Battish, Al-Tarabee checkpoint and Tall Battish. Government forces had otherwise captured these areas on Wednesday afternoon but were forced to withdraw hours later.
On the latter frontier northwest of Hama city, HTS posted a video showing the destruction of 23mm gun cannon position, T-72 tank, and BMP-1 amid clashes with the SAA. At least 10 Syrian soldiers were killed-in-action today, sources confirmed.
Meanwhile, the SAA killed an elite HTS commander, known as Muhammad Al-Taayshi. This deceased jihadist of Sudanese origin personally led a Inghimasi storming group:
At the moment, pro-government forces spearheaded by the Tiger Forces and commander-in-chief Suheil Al-Hassan are regrouping for renewed assaults on Maardes and Halfaya, considered emperative Islamist bastions.
The SAA also posted battle footage showing its version of events on Wednesday:
