BEIRUT, LEBANON (9:45 P.M.) – The Islamist offensive in the East Ghouta took a disastrous turn, Monday, after Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham and Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham attempted to capture the strategic vehicle base inside the Harasta suburb.
Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham and their allies began today’s assault by targeting the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) positions at the Harasta police station with a car bomb.
Following the car bombing, heavy clashes broke-out inside the Harasta suburb when Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham and their allies then attacked the Syrian Arab Army’s positions at the municipal building.
However, the Islamist attack would be repelled by the Syrian Army after several hours of fighting outside the municipal building.
According to a military source in Damascus, the Syrian Arab Army killed tens of Islamist rebels, including a large number of Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham militants.
Since repelling the attack, the Syrian Army has managed to recapture the Harasta bus station, while also pushing away the Islamist rebels from the municipal building.
