DAMASCUS, SYRIA (8:10 P.M.) – Moments ago, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) imposed full control over the village of Ruwayshid after clashes with ISIS insurgents in the southern countryside of Hasakah following the capture of four nearby villages on Friday.
This advance comes just hours after the SDF leadership officially announced their ‘Al-Jazirah Storm’ offensive was fully underway, an operation which was revealed by Al-Masdar News earlier in the day.
Meanwhile, a massive Kurdish salient has formed southwards en route to Deir Ezzor after a brigade of SDF fighters have reached the outskirts of the Deir Ezzor Industrial Zone, little more than 15 kilometers from the provincial capital.
US jets and choppers are aiding the SDF along every step of the way, conducting dozens of sorties over suspected ISIS positions near the Khabur River. Most of the airstrikes are focused around the Islamic State strongholds of Marqadah and Dashishah.
In the coming weeks, the SDF hopes to reach the northern gates of Deir Ezzor to set up Rojava’s (Syrian Kurdistan) future border with the Syrian Government.
