DAMASCUS, SYRIA (12:40 P.M.) – The encircled Islamic State fighters in eastern Hama refuse to surrender, a brief video released by Amaq Agency strongly suggests.
In a somewhat shaky video released by Amaq Agency on Monday, a Syrian Arab Army (SAA) tank is filmed on fire from afar, likely following an attack by a guided missile:
The incident reportedly took place southwest of Uqayribat, a long-standing jihadist stronghold that was liberated by the SAA earlier this month.
Despite being cutoff from the Islamic State mainland for five weeks now, ISIS insurgents still control some 40 villages in a rural pocket in central Syria.
A separate video was also released by the ISIS-affiliated Amaq Agency on Sunday where jihadist fighters were shown attacking one of the SAA’s defensive positions in Deir Ezzor:
On Monday, the SAA notably crossed the Euphrates River in order to wrestle Deir Ezzor’s eastern oil fields from ISIS in a remarkable turn of events.
An updated map depicting recent developments in Deir Ezzor is available here.
