Continuing its efforts to wrestle Manbij city from ISIS, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) has made further gains around Manbij in the past 24 hours in what appears to be a pincer movement to envelop the city itself.
Yesterday evening, the largely Kurdish SDF captured the villages of Hamduniyeh and Kabir Saghir at the southern gates of Manbij city.
This puts SDF troops just 2 kilometers south of Manbij city.
Nearby mopping up operations also saw the SDF capture a handful of villages east, southwest and northwest of Manbij city.
U.S. special forces and coalition jets are playing an instrumental role in coordinating the offensive, although SDF fighters are bearing the brunt of the advance on ISIS-held Manbij.
Moreover, modest SDF gains were also made towards Jarabolous, one of few remaining ISIS controlled cities on the Turkish-Syrian border.
Meanwhile, a simultaneous government offensive is underway in western Raqqa.
Due to these offensives, ISIS is under unprecedented pressure in northern Syria.
