Battles between Syrian government forces and Islamic State fighters continue in East Qalamoun area with the terror organization taking over more territories and posing a real threat on Al Seen airbase.
The 3-day wide-scale offensive launched by ISIS has yielded in considerable gains. The group is now in full control of several sites to the northwest of the airbase including Al-Safa checkpoint, Battalion 559, Chemistry Battaion, in addition to several hilltops overlooking the strategic Triangle checkpoint.
Another site was lost; the Abandoned Battalion located in the eastern outskirts of the airbase following a heavy attack by the jihadi militants. The government troops also withdrew from and advanced defense line – recaptured last Saturday – in the north of the airport.
A source told AMN that workers at the Cement Factory were evacuated for fear of a potential ISIS attack on the facility.
