The Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) has shifted its focus from the Deir Ezzor Military Airport to the Al-Baghayliyah District in the northern part of the province after several failed offensives these past two weeks.
ISIS began their assault by storming the Al-Jazeera University compounds in the western part of the Al-Baghayliyah District, resulting in a fierce battle with the Syrian Arab Army’s 104th Airborne Brigade of the Republican Guard.
Following the commencement of the Al-Jazeera University attack, ISIS launched another assault at the strategic hilltop of Tal Al-Rawad, where they were once again confronted by the Syrian Arab Army.
As of now, the Syrian Armed Forces have been able to repel all of ISIS’ infiltration attempts inside the Al-Baghayliyah District; however, the terrorist group is likely to launch another attack in the coming hours.
The Russian and Syrian air forces are participating in this battle, but they have been limited due to the close proximity of the firefights.
