BEIRUT, LEBANON (8:45 P.M.) – The Islamic State (ISIS) launched another offensive in the Deir Ezzor Governorate on Friday, targeting the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) defenses around the Al-Hawiqah District of the provincial capital.
Launching their attack from the southern axis of the district, the Islamic State forces attempted to breach the Syrian Arab Army’s defenses and expel the soldiers from this area.
However, the terrorist group’s assault would fall well short of its goal, as the Syrian Arab Army not only repelled the infiltration attempt, but also, inflicted heavy casualties on the Islamic State’s troops.
According to a military source in Deir Ezzor, the Syrian Arab Army killed an estimated 25 militants on Friday, including one of the Islamic State’s field commanders inside the Al-Hawiqah District.
Recently, the Syrian Arab Army and Islamic State forces have traded offensives in the Deir Ezzor Governorate in order to gain the upper-hand against one another as Summer descends upon eastern Syria.
