On Monday morning, the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) conducted a powerful assault on the Deir Ezzor Military Airport in another bid to enter the southeastern gates of this Syrian Arab Army (SAA) stronghold in eastern Syria; however, much to the terrorist group’s dismay, the SAA’s 137th Artillery Brigade of the 17th Reserve Division was well-prepared for this attack.
ISIS began their assault at the Ceramics Factory (east of the Deir Ezzor Military Airport) by launching 3 suicide bombers in the direction of the aforementioned site’s eastern perimeter that was well-defended by the Syrian Arab Army’s 137th Brigade.
Unfortunately for ISIS, their 3 suicide attacks never reached their intended targets; instead, all three of the armored vehicles (including a BMP) were destroyed by the vigilant soldiers from the Syrian Arab Army.
Following the failed suicide attacks, ISIS sent several of their fighters towards the contested Ceramics Factory, where they were met with fierce resistance from the Syrian Arab Army; this resulted in the terrorist group losing over 30 enemy combatants and 4 armored vehicles.
In addition to their failed assault on the Ceramics Factory, ISIS attempted to break-through the Syrian Armed Forces’ defensive positions at the Al-Muri’iyah Farms and the Deir Ezzor Military Airport, but these infiltration attempts proved unsuccessful once again as another 20+ militants were killed by the Syrian Army.
According to several battlefield reports from the Deir Ezzor Governorate, over 100 enemy combatants were killed in the last 48 hours, including several foreigners and local ISIS fighters – the following terrorists were identified by the Republican Guard:
