Homs, Syria (8:10 P.M.) – The Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) continued their offensive in the eastern countryside of the Homs Governorate on Wednesday, targeting the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) positions at Sawwan Hill and Huwysis village.

According to the Islamic State’s official media wing “Al-‘Amaq,” their forces managed to capture several checkpoints between Sawwan Hill and the Al-Sha’er Gas Fields on Wednesday.

Despite this large advance, the Islamic State suffered 16 casualties while trying to bypass the Syrian Arab Army’s defenses near Sawwan Hill; these losses have left in a poor position to handle the government’s counter-offensive.

A source from the Syrian Arab Army told Al-Masdar News on Wednesday that the Syrian Armed Forces forestalled the terrorist group’s offensive near Sawwan Hill and that they are now countering the Islamic State.
