The Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) released yesterday a video showing a Jihadi-John style executioner beheading a captive identified as Abdullah Bashir Anas, a member of the Saudi-funded Jaysh Al-Fateh who is in charge of the groups’ depots in Qalamoun to the northeast of Damascus.

The abhorrent video is seen by many as a ‘disparate attempt’ by the world-terror group to deflect attention from the huge loss in Tal Abyad city (located on the far north along the Turkish border) where the Kurdish forces (PYG), supported by US-led coalition airstrikes took over the city a couple of days ago.

Abdullah Bashir Anas joined Sa’ad Bin Abi Waqqas battalion, an armed group affiliated with Jaysh Al- Islam, and fought against the Syrian Army in Eastern Ghouta. He was then transferred to Jordan to receive medical care after being severely injured. Later, he came back to Syria but couldn’t make it to Easter Ghouta from Qalamoun which was besieged by the Syrian Army. There, he was captures by ISIS.

Please treat this discussion with the same respect you would a public park. We, too, are a shared community resource — a place to share skills, knowledge and interests through ongoing conversation.

These are not hard and fast rules, merely guidelines to aid the human judgment of our community and keep this a clean and well-lighted place for civilized public discourse.

Improve the Discussion

Help us make this a great place for discussion by always working to improve the discussion in some way, however small. If you are not sure your post adds to the conversation, think over what you want to say and try again later.

Be Agreeable, Even When You Disagree

You may wish to respond to something by disagreeing with it. That’s fine. But remember to criticize ideas, not people. Please avoid:

  • Name-calling
  • Ad hominem attacks
  • Responding to a post’s tone instead of its actual content
  • Knee-jerk contradiction

Instead, provide reasoned counter-arguments that improve the conversation.

Since this man was so destructive…wonderful for his life to be extinguished. May the lives of all in Syria taking innocent lives be likewise extinguished.
