BEIRUT, LEBANON (2:50 A.M.) – The so-called Islamic State (ISIS) kicked off a new offensive in the southern suburbs of Damascus on Tuesday, targeting Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham’s positions in the strategic Yarmouk Camp District.
ISIS began the offensive by storming Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham’s positions along Haifa Street; this would result in a short, but violent battle.
The Islamic State assault would ultimately prove too much for the Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham fighters, as the latter retreated from all the buildings they controlled along Haifa Street.
As a result of this advance, the Islamic State now controls most of the Yarmouk Camp, leaving only the northern axis of the district still rebel-held.
