Yesterday, ISIS fighters stormed government positions in eastern Aleppo, thus capturing an estimated 10 villages from the Syrian Arab Army (SAA).

The area was mostly defended by National Defence Forces (NDF) who were unable to offer much resistance against experienced jihadist fighters.

Now, ISIS media has released a series of (presumed genuine) pictures, revealing that their fighters have captured a Russian-made T-72 tank and several other armoured vehicles from government troops who largely retreated from the region. Furthermore, much Iranian delivered ammunition was seized by ISIS.

Now, ISIS is expected to strike further west towards the government stronghold of Khanasser. If Islamic State fighters are able to capture the aforementioned town, they will have the only government supply line to Aleppo city cut once again.

Two months ago, ISIS made a completely similar offensive in the region and managed to capture Khanasser town for some 24 hours. However, at the time Tiger Forces were quickly deployed near Khanasser and managed to recover all lost villages, even inflicting more than 100 casualties upon ISIS fighters.

Clashes are still ongoing in east of Khanasser. Already, ISIS has imposed full control over the previously government-held villages of Jub al ali, Hayah, Zabad, Aqilah, Kuwayz, Sirdah, Qulayah, Tawbah, Masuudiya and Atshanah.

While some reports suggest the Khanasser-Aleppo road has been closed – this is not true. However, if ISIS forces can advance a few kilometers further west, they will have the Aleppo supply route cut off yet again.

What’s the use of NDF. They should be armed with light arms only. They have demoralizing effect on the rest of the army. The best get rid of them altogether.

Isn’t there heavy defensive cover from artillery and air power? I know the americans went through similar combat in Nam such as hills switching sides many times so I don’t see this as a major setback.

If one only rely on foreign militias to do all the fighting, setbacks like this will never cease to occur. Almost all equipment seized by ISIS in their recent Khanasir offensive were Iranian, the soldiers captured were Afghani Liwa Fatemiyoun. Only Syrians themselves can stop the ongoing evil in Syria.

This area was defended by Iranians. On other pictures, which are not posted here, but on Twitter @CivilWarMap you can see 8 dead Iranian soldiers, Iranian documents, and uniforms…
That’s also the reason, why the sized ammunition and weapons are Iranian…

It’s time for Iran and Russia to deploy troops, by the tens of thousands, and end this for good.

Stop bullshitting in the comment section. NDF is not just important but essential! NDF mostly consists of locals protecting their towns.
