DAMASCUS, SYRIA (3:50 p.m.) – At least 7 civilians were killed, 25 others injured as the Islamic State fired mortar shells and homegrown missiles at government-held district of the eastern city of Deir Ezzor.
the attack – which hit a crowded market place in the city – comes as the terror group is steadily losing ground to the Syrian forces and allies throughout the oil-rich province.
Children and women account for the majority of the victims, according to local source.
Earlier this morning, the Syrian Army was capable of recapturing the village of hatlah Fokkani, thus effectively besieging ISIS militants inside the provincial capital.
In the meantime, units of the Syrian Army – backed by allied forces – continue to break into the terror group’s last stronghold of al-Mayadin.
