Around noon today, ISIS fighters recaptured the village of Tall Battal ash Shamali after brief skirmishes caused rebel fighters to withdraw from the village.

Tall Battal was otherwise seized by rebels yesterday as ISIS and rebel forces exchanged control of several villages in the region.

Amaq News (Islamic State media outlet) reported that 25 Turkish artillery shells had struck Tall Battal as ISIS forces entered the village.

Tall Battal is located just 3 kilometers from Turkey; thus giving Turkish artillery crews clear visibility to target ISIS insurgents inside the village.

The Islamic State and Syria’s rebels have been clashing sporadically since the two broke apart in early 2014.
