BEIRUT, LEBANON (6:15 P.M.) – The Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL/IS/Daesh) carried out a new operation in the eastern countryside of the Homs province, today, targeting the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) positions east of Al-Sukhneh city.
ISIS began their operation by positioning themselves along a road leading from Al-Sukhneh to the provincial capital of Deir Ezzor.
The terrorist group would then ambush a Syrian Arab Army convoy that was traveling east from Al-Sukhneh, killing and wounding several soldiers in the process.
According to a Syrian military source, the Islamic State terrorists then withdrew from the area once army reinforcements arrived at the scene of the attack.
The Islamic State has been carrying out several attacks like this over the last few weeks, which has resulted in the death of over 100 Syrian Arab Army soldiers.
In response to these ambushes, the Syrian Arab Army has sent reinforcements to the Palmyra front; however, it appears ISIS has moved their operations to nearby Al-Sukhneh, which is located just south of the Al-Raqqa province.
