BEIRUT, LEBANON (12:20 P.M.) – The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have once again taken control of a key town in the eastern part of the Euphrates River region.
According to the central commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces, their troops managed to expel the remaining Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL/IS/Daesh) terrorists from Al-Shafah after launching a big assault on the latter’s defenses.
The Islamic State was previously able to reenter Al-Shafah after launching a big counter-assault last week.
However, while the attack would result in over 20 SDF killed, the Islamic State was unable to establish a strong enough foothold in Al-Shafah to withstand a counter-attack.
With Al-Shafah captured, the Syrian Democratic Forces will now push further south towards the Al-Sousah area, which is the last Islamic State stronghold east of the Euphrates.
