On Thursday morning, the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) suffered a heavy blow after their offensive failed at the Deir Ezzor Military Airport, as the Syrian Arab Army’s 137th Artillery Brigade of the 17th Reserve Division – alongside the 104th Airborne Brigade of the Republican Guard – countered the terrorist group inside the provincial capital and the strategic airbase.
ISIS’ disastrous offensive at the Deir Ezzor Military Airport began when two suicide bombers drove their armored vehicles (T-55 Tank and BMP) that were laced with explosives in the direction of the southeastern gates.
Unfortunately for the suicide bombers, their vehicles were destroyed by the well-prepared soldiers from the Syrian Arab Army’ 137th Brigade before they could reach their targets at the southeastern gates of the Deir Ezzor Airport.
Following this failed bid to bypass the Syrian Arab Army’s defensives, a large wave of ISIS fighters stormed the gates of the Deir Ezzor Military Airport, where they were confronted by the 137th Brigade and the Russian Air Force before they could advance past the 100 meter barrier separating the two opposing parties.
The terrorist group would lose several fighters and then retreat towards Euphrates riverbank, where they were once again attacked by the Russian Air Force, who executed a number of airstrikes in support of the Syrian Arab Army.
With the Russians bombarding ISIS, the SAA’s 137th and 104th Brigades struck back against the terrorists; this time, their target was the Ceramics Factory that is located in the northeastern countryside of the Deir Ezzor Military Airport.
The Syrian Armed Forces were able to impose full control over the Ceramics Factory en route to their advance towards the riverbank that is located at the opposite end of Saqr Island.
In addition to their success at the Ceramics Factory, the Syrian Armed Forces also imposed control over the Military Facility at the northeastern outskirts of the Deir Ezzor Military Airport, along with the southwestern entrance to Al-Jafra.
To conclude the successful day, the Syrian Arab Army’s 137th Brigade destroyed a 4 story building in the Old Airport District that ISIS used to house their fighters; this was followed by the Russian Air Force bombarding the ISIS repair crews working on the Al-Siyasiyah Bridge.
