The Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) launched a surprise offensive on Sunday morning that targeted the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) defenses at the southeastern countryside of Dumayr.
ISIS began their assault by storming the Syrian Arab Army controlled “Badr Base,” resulting in a series of intense firefights that persisted for more than three hours on Sunday morning.
The Syrian Arab Army was able to beat back the initial ISIS assault at the Badr Base; however, the aforementioned terrorist group would launch another powerful assault several minutes later.
According to an Al-Masdar correspondent in Damascus City, ISIS launched their attack from the Dakwah axis, which is located directly south of the Badr Base.
So far, the Syrian Armed Forces have been able to maintain their ground against the Islamic State terrorists, but the battle is far from over, as the latter continues to flood this area with reinforcements.
The town of Dumayr is strategically located in the eastern Qalamoun area of the Rif Dimashq Governorate.
