Sweida, Syria (3:15 A.M.) – The Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) launched a surprise assault against the Syrian Armed Forces on Monday night, targeting the northeastern countryside of the Al-Sweida Governorate after failing to retake the Al-Walid border-crossing from the Iraqi Army.
A military source told Al-Masdar News on Monday night that the Islamic State militants managed to capture Aliyat Hill after a fierce battle with the National Defense Forces (NDF) and Syrian Arab Army (SAA).
The source added that Aliyat Hill is situated between the villages of Juneineh and Barik in Al-Sweida’s northeastern countryside.
At least 5 soldiers from the National Defense Forces and Syrian Arab Army were reportedly killed during this surprise assault by the Islamic State terrorists on Monday night.
In response to this surprise ISIS offensive, the Syrian Armed Forces have sent a large group of reinforcements from the provincial capital of Al-Sweida to the Aliyat Hill area in order to help drive back the encroaching terrorists.
