BEIRUT, LEBANON (2:45 P.M.) – The Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL/IS/Daesh) launched a new attack against the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) forces in the Deir Ezzor countryside on Sunday morning.
According to reports, the Islamic State forces targeted the Syrian Army’s positions in the Badiya Al-Mayadeen region, which is located west of the city of Al-Mayadeen.
The reports said the Islamic State managed to infiltrate the Syrian Arab Army’s positions on Sunday, resulting in several casualties for the SAA and the capture of their equipment.
Following the attack, the Islamic State forces disappeared back into the vast Syrian Desert, which is where the terrorist group has thrived for the past few years.
The Islamic State has taken advantage of the COVID-19 crisis to launch heavy attacks in Syria and Iraq, with occasional strikes in Libya.
In response to the Islamic State attacks, the Syrian Army, Iraqi Army (along with Hashd Al-Shaabi), and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have all launched operations to target the terrorist group.
While these operations have been successful, they have been unable to eliminate all of the terrorist group’s sleeper cells.
