Damascus, Syria (11:10 A.M.) – The Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) launched a large-scale offensive in the eastern region of the Qalamoun Mountains on Saturday, targeting the Free Syrian Army’s (FSA) defenses from three different axes.
ISIS began the assault by launching two VBIEDs (vehicle borne improvised explosive device) towards the Free Syrian Army’s defenses; these terrorist attacks were ultimately repelled before they could reach their intended targets.
Following the VBIED attacks, the Islamic State militants stormed the eastern Qalamoun from the Zabidah, Afa’i Mountain, and Dab’aa Hill axes.
ISIS was able to capture several sites from the Free Syrian Army, while also killing over 20 of their combatants on Saturday morning.
Clashes are still ongoing between the two parties, as the Islamic State continues their onslaught.
