DAMASCUS, SYRIA (5: 05 P.M.) – The Islamic State militant attacked the Syrian Army positions in the eastern city of Deir Ezzor after the group lost its bastion of al-Sukhnah in the eastern countryside of Homs.
The attack began from the ISIS-held district of al-Baghiliyah and targeted the Army’s outposts near al-Rawad hill which overlooks Division 17 base located to the northwest of the city.
Fierce clashes then ensued as a result of the attack, which was eventually repelled as the Syrian fighter jets bombed ISIS reinforcements, destroying two MLRs launchers and several machinegun-fitted trucks.
According to a military source, scores of ISIS have been killed and wounded in the failed assault.
The territories controlled by the terror group are steadily shrinking as the Syrian government forces managed to recapture al-Sukhnah town which serves as the last defense line before the Syrian troops reach the embattled city of Deir Ezzor.
