BEIRUT, LEBANON (1:00 P.M) – The so-called “Islamic State” (ISIS/ISIL/IS/Daesh) launched a counter-attack in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor, today, targeting the areas controlled by the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
Daesh reportedly began their counter-assault on Thursday morning by storming the Syrian Democratic Forces’ positions in the Badiya Al-Sha’afah area of southeastern Deir Ezzor.
According to pro-opposition activists via social media, the Daesh attack killed at least seven members of the Syrian Democratic Forces, while another two were captured in the process.
The Islamic State was also able to seize several points from the Syrian Democratic Forces after a series of intense battles in the Badiya Al-Sha’afah area.
Since its capture by the Syrian Democratic Forces, the Badiya Al-Sha’afah area has been the scene of some of the most intense clashes inside Syria.
The Islamic State has used the rugged terrain around this area to carry out hit-and-run attacks against the SDF troops, causing a number of casualties in their ranks.
