BEIRUT, LEBANON (11:30 P.M.) – The Islamic State (ISIS) launched a big assault in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor, tonight, targeting oil fields controlled by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
According to reports from Deir Ezzor, ISIS attacked the SDF-held oil fields in the Hurayji area in an apparent hit and run style assault.
The Islamic State attack resulted in the death of more than ten fighters from the Syrian Democratic Forces, but no captured territory as the terrorist forces retreated from the area shortly after the assault.
Furthermore, the Islamic State fighters managed to seize a large cache of weapons from the SDF prior to their withdrawal from the area.
The Islamic State has recently been launching these types of attacks against the SDF and Syrian Arab Army (SAA) in a bid to inflict heavy damage on their defenses in the Euphrates River Valley.
These attacks have proven effective for the most part, as the Syrian Arab Army and SDF have been forced to send reinforcements to these fronts in order to avoid having ISIS seize any ground.
