Minutes ago, the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) launched a VBIED (vehicle borne improvised explosive device) towards a Syrian Arab Army (SAA) checkpoint along the Ithriya-Khanasser Highway in southeast Aleppo.
According to an Al-Masdar field correspondent, the terrorist attack struck the Al-Rasoul Checkpoint,
killing and (no soldiers killed) wounding a number of soldiers in the process.
Clashes erupted after some Islamic State fighters attempted to take control of the Al-Rasoul Checkpoint; however, the attack was repelled and the Ithirya-Khanasser Highway remains open.
The Ithriya-Khanasser Highway is currently the Syrian government’s supply route to the Aleppo Governorate; if lost, the entire provincial capital would be under siege.
