Earlier today, henchmen loyal to the Islamic State handed out candy to civilians in the Yarmouk Camp, a Damascus suburb mainly populated by Palestinian refugees.
The seemingly kind act was followed by praises for yesterday’s deadly blasts which caused hundreds of casualties to civilians in the otherwise peaceful coastal cities of Jableh and Tartous. The terrorist attacks were later claimed by ISIS.
Due to the attacks, upwards of 150 non-combatants were killed with more than 200 injured in indiscriminate bombings at a bus station and hospital.
The Yarmouk Camp was recently captured by ISIS after month-long clashes with Jabhat al-Nusra, another jihadist group and former ally of the Islamic State.
With insurgent infighting ongoing in neighbouring districts, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) meanwhile has the suburbs encircled and contained.
One month ago, the SAA furthermore seized a small portion of the Yarmouk Camp.
