DAMASCUS, SYRIA (5:00 P.M.) – An ISIS-affiliate group in west Daraa countryside said it has thwarted an attack launched by rebel fighters, killing and wounding scores of the assailants.
Rebel fighters of the Free Syrian Army initiated an assault against Khalid Ibn al-Waleed Army in Adwan town located in the western countryside of Daraa province, with the aim to oust the ISIS-affiliated jihadists and take over the town.
However, the offensive went horribly wrong when the attackers were caught in a landmine field, which killed and injured most of them. The rest who managed to escaped came under a mortar attack.
At least 10 rebel fighters were reported dead in the failed attack.
The assault comes as part of a wider battle announced yesterday by FSA-linked groups with the objective to drive out ISIS militants from the areas they control in the western countryside of the province.
