BEIRUT, LEBANON (9:45 A.M.) – A high ranking officer in the so-called Islamic State (ISIS) was recently killed in northwest Iraq, the Rudaw News Agency reported on Monday.
According to the Rudaw report, the Islamic State’s chief of finance and logistics, “Abu Obeida”, was killed during a joint operation by the US Armed Forces and Kurdish Peshmerga in the Mount Qarachogh area.
Citing the head of the Peshmerga forces in Makhmour, Sirwan Barzani, Rudaw claimed that the operation took place at 6 P.M. (local time) on Saturday and led to the death of Abu Obedia and two of his associates.
The U.S. Coalition reportedly provided the air support to the Peshmerga forces that were carrying out this raid.
Abu Obeida is the highest ranking Islamic State leader to be killed in either Syria or Iraq in the last month.
