DAMASCUS, SYRIA (3:15 P.M.) – Fierce clashes ripped through the northern Syrian city of Raqqa as the US-backed forces stormed several districts of the Islamic State heartland.
The battles intensify while tens of thousands of civilians remain trapped inside the battlefield city.
ISIS (also known as ISIL or simply IS) have planted landmines along the frontlines in order to prevent civilians from fleeing the city. Several civilians have been killed when the landmines exploded while attempting to escape.
Meanwhile, scores of the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces fighters have been killed and injured when an ISIS suicide bomber blew up his vehicle amid a gathering of the Kurdish forces inside the city.
