BEIRUT, LEBANON (4:00 P.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) is quickly advancing in the Deir Ezzor Governorate, liberating areas that have been under the control of the Islamic State (ISIS) for three weeks.
Soldiers from the Al-Qassem Group and 104th Airborne Brigade of the Republican Guard have seized several points in the cemetery over the last 24 hours, forcing the Islamic State to reinforce the last quarter of this strategic site next to the military airport.
According to a military source in Deir Ezzor, the Syrian Armed Forces are preparing for another major push to lift the siege on the airport before Islamic State reinforcements arrive to launch another assault.
If the Syrian Army can retake the cemetery and Harabish Hill, they will be in position to lift the siege and put an end to the threat around the city.
