The Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) launched another offensive on Sunday that targeted the Syrian Arab Army’s positions in the Thardeh Mountains of Deir Ezzor.
ISIS began the offensive by launching their usual VBIED (vehichle borne improvised explosive device) at the Syrian Arab Army’s defenses; however, it was destroyed before it could reach its intended target.
Following the failed VBIED attack, ISIS stormed the Syrian Arab Army’s defenses at the southeastern perimeter of Jabal Thardeh; this resulted in a series of violent clashes that lasted for several hours.
The Syrian Arab Army’s 137th Artillery Brigade of the 17th Reserve Division was able to push back the encroaching Islamic State terrorists at Jabal Thardeh, killing a large number of enemy combatants in the process.
The Islamic State’s offensive on Sunday marked the third attack by the terrorist group inside the Deir Ezzor Governorate; all three assaults failed.
