Moments ago, the Islamic State’s media department released a new previously unseen photo of notorious Chechen commander, Abu Omar al-Shishani, allegedly proving him to be alive and well.

Three weeks ago, Reuters reported the death of Abu Omar al-Shishani, citing claims of several US officials. Many other news agencies reported the story, including Al-Masdar News.

If one is to believe the Pentagon however, Omar al-Shishani was struck and “likely killed” by multiple airstrikes near the town of al-Shadadi (Hasakah province) in Syria. Meanwhile, other reports claimed the ISIS commander was permanently disabled and laid hospitalized in Raqqa city (ISIS capital) after receiving treatment by a specialized European migrant doctor.

Al-Masdar News can confirm the picture has not surfaced the internet prior to today; however, it is unknown if the photo is actually recent. As such, it does not nescessarily prove that Abu Omar al-Shishani survived the airstrikes which allegedly killed him.
