Since the anti-ISIS US-led coalition started its sorties some 20 months ago, the campaign has undoubtedly failed to achieve its objectives in ‘degrading and ultimately destroy ISIS’. In fact, more territories have been captured, Syrians and Iraqis killed by the world-terror organization ever since.
The promise to ‘squeeze the heart’ of ISIS has been made by Joe Biden, U.S Vice President, during his Middle- East tour on March 7th, 2016. He demanded America’s most wealthy allies in the region, namely Saudi Arabia and UAE to take sincere measures against the group they once implicitly supported to topple Syria’s Assad.
In a related context, ISIS supporters in the UAE have been shockingly increasing. In December 2014, American teacher Ibolya Ryan was murdered in Abu Dhabi by an ISIS-affiliated woman, who was also planning a bomb attack outside the apartment of another American citizen. The woman was later executed.
Another 29-year-old ISIS sympathizer was detained for allegedly planning to detonate a hand-made grenade in a crowded restaurant in Dubai.
Last Wednesday, flights at the Abu Dhabi International Airport have been suspended due to adverse weather conditions. However, unconfirmed reports pointed out to several ISIS members being arrested while attempting to plants several IEDs inside the airport facilities.
