BEIRUT, LEBANON (8:10 P.M.) – The Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL/IS/Daesh) terror group launched a surprise attack last night that targeted the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) troops west of the Euphrates River.
According to a Syrian military source in the area, the Islamic State terrorists began their operation last night by crossing the Euphrates River and landing in the Deir Ezzor Governorate village of Al-Siyal.
Once they landed in Al-Siyal, the Islamic State fighters ambushed a large Syrian Arab Army camp, killing over 20 soldiers that were mostly sleeping inside the Euphrates River town.
Following the attack, the Islamic State terrorist slipped back across the Euphrates River and evaded a potential counter-attack by the Syrian Arab Army reinforcements that arrived shortly after the ambush.
The Islamic State has carried out similar ambushes like this in the past; however, they are not often as successful as their assault last night.
