The Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) launched a late night attack in southwest Deir Ezzor on Wednesday that targeted the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) positions near the Panorama Checkpoint.
ISIS was able to overrun the Syrian Arab Army’s defenses at two points near the Panorama Checkpoint after the latter found themselves outnumbered by the terrorist forces.
Earlier in the day, ISIS attempted to advance at the same site in southwest Deir Ezzor; however, they were ultimately repelled by the Syrian Arab Army and National Defense Forces (NDF).
The Syrian Arab Army’s counter-offensive last week at Jabal Thardeh and the Panorama Checkpoint reversed all of the Islamic State’s gains in mid-May.
Now, ISIS is attempting to recapture the sites they lost to the Syrian Armed Forces along the International Highway, including the Armenian Cemetery that is situated just east of Al-Shoulah village.
