The Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) launched a new assault in west Deir Ezzor on Wednesday that targeted the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) defenses at the southern outskirts of the Panorama Checkpoint.
ISIS began the assault by storming several points in Jabal Thardeh, resulting in a fierce battle with the Syrian Arab Army’s 137th Artillery Brigade of the 17th Reserve Division.
Despite their repeated attempts to break-through the Syrian Army’s front-lines, the terrorist group was unable to capture any territory near Jabal Thardeh and the Panorama checkpoint.
In addition to their failure at the aforementioned sites, ISIS found themselves as the recipients of several Russian airstrikes near the provincial capital.
All-in-all, the Islamic State forces were unable to make any gains on Wednesday, leaving them in the same position they were in on Tuesday.
