Two ISIS suicide bombers stormed, this morning, a military base for the US-backed fighters, near al-Tanf border crossing between Syria and Iraq.
According to the group’s official social media account, Aamaq Agency, the suicide bombers remotely detonated a VBIED near the main gate of the base before storming it.
Fierce clashes then erupted before the bombers blew off their explosive vests inside the base, killing a number of guards.
The base serves as gathering center for the New Syrian Army; a newly-formed group of fighters, trained and armed by the United States to fight ISIS.
Last June, ISIS repelled an attack launched by the New Syrian Army in the bordering town of Albu Kamal, killing most of the attackers and seizing considerable quantities of US-made weapons.
