BEIRUT, LEBANON (11:30 P.M.) – The Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL/IS/Daesh) emerged within the U.S.-held Tanf Zone this week to lay an ambush against a group of rebels near the Iraqi border.
According to reports, the Islamic State ambushed a vehicle belonging to the commander of the U.S.-backed Jaysh Mughawir Al-Thoura group as he was traveling through the Tanf Zone.
The Jaysh Mughawir Al-Thoura commander, Mohannad Al-Talaa, and two of his bodyguards, were seriously wounded after the Islamic State fired an anti-tank guided missile at the rebel commanders vehicle.
Al-Talaa is reportedly in critical condition as a result of the wounds he sustained during the attack by the Islamic State.
Due to the fact that the Tanf Zone is primarily surrounded by desert terrain, the Islamic State is able to slip back-and-forth through the area while remaining relatively undetected.
