BEIRUT, LEBANON (9:15 P.M.) – The so-called “Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) caught the pro-government forces near the strategic town of Jubb Al-Jarrah off-guard tonight, striking the small village of Khattab from its eastern flank.
ISIS was able to overwhelm the National Defense Forces (NDF) at the eastern flank of Khattab, forcing them to retreat in order to avoid being overrun by the advancing terrorists.
In nearly 45 minutes, the National Defense Forces had completely withdrawn from Khattab, leaving the entire village and some of their weapons for the Islamic State terrorists to seize on Thursday night.
With Khattab under their control, the Islamic State then turned their attention to the strategic eastern Homs town of Jubb Al-Jarrah, where the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and National Defense Forces built one of their strongest lines of defense.
No infiltration has been reported at Jubb Al-Jarrah thus far; however, the primary attack on the town has not yet begun either.
Reinforcements are expected to arrive in Jubb Al-Jarrah in the coming hours, as the Syrian Arab Army looks to repel this major ISIS threat.
