BEIRUT, LEBANON (1:30 P.M.) – The Islamic State (ISIL) launched another offensive in the Deir Ezzor Governorate this week, targeting the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) defenses at the military airport.
ISIL began their Deir Ezzor Airport offensive by storming both the provincial cemetery and Al-Jafra Farms; this resulted in a series of intense firefights with the Syrian Arab Army’s 123rd and 137th brigades.
Despite their repeated attempts to retake the territory they lost in the provincial cemetery, the Islamic State was forced to withdraw their assault after losing several fighters during the failed infiltration.
Meanwhile, at Al-Jafra Farms near the military airport’s southeastern perimeter, the Syrian Arab Army managed to foil another infiltration attempt by ISIL, killing and wounding more than 15 fighters.
