BEIRUT, LEBANON (6:20 A.M.) – The Islamic State (ISIL) has conceded a large chunk of the Palmyra countryside to the Syrian government forces over the last ten days, leaving them on the brink of being expelled from the mountains in the Homs Governorate.
On Tuesday, the situation did not get much better for the Islamic State militants in southern Palmyra, as the Syrian Arab Army’s 5th Corps liberated three hilltops in a sweeping assault.
According to the military source in the Palmyra countryside, the Syrian Arab Army liberated the hilltops of Tal SyriaTel, Tal Al-Shuahda, and Tal Al-Mashtal.
Video footage of the Syrian Arab Army’s advance was captured by Hezbollah’s official media wing; this film shows the moment the SAA troops took control of the three hilltops in southern Palmyra.
In addition to their advance south of Palmyra, the Syrian Arab Army is also making an important push eastward in order to lift the siege on the Deir Ezzor Governorate.
