BEIRUT, LEBANON (5:30 A.M.) – The Islamic State (ISIL) launched another night assault in the western outskirts of Deir Ezzor City, Monday night, targeting the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) positions at several axes near the strategic 137th Artillery Brigade Base.
ISIL began the assault by sending a VBIED (vehicle borne improvised explosive device) towards the Syrian Arab Army’s defenses near the Panorama Roundabout, resulting in a powerful explosion that could be heard across the provincial capital.
Unable to hold their lines following the VBIED attack, the Syrian Arab Army soldiers were forced to withdraw from several checkpoints near the Panorama Roundabout.
This retreat would buy the Syrian Arab Army enough time to recover around the Panorama Roundabout and fortify their second line of defense before the Islamic State terrorists storm the area.
Currently, the Islamic State is storming the Syrian Arab Army’s positions at the hilltops of Tal Umm Abboud and Tal SyriaTel; however, they have been unable to make any gains thus far.
Meanwhile, north of the Panorama Roundabout, the Islamic State launched a powerful assault on the large hilltop of Tal Sanouf, which is considered the gateway to the 137th Brigade Base.
Intense clashes are ongoing at Tal Sanouf, as the Islamic State attempts to break-through the Syrian Arab Army’s lines at the northern part of the hilltop.
