BEIRUT, LEBANON (12:50 P.M.) – The Islamic State (ISIL) launched a desperate offensive in the Deir Ezzor Governorate, Saturday, targeting the Panorama area that is located west of the provincial capital.

ISIL began the attack by storming the Syrian Arab Army’s positions south of the Panorama School; this resulted in a fierce battle that lasted for several hours on Saturday.

Unable to penetrate the army’s defenses in the Panorama area, the Islamic State was forced to withdraw after losing more than 15 terrorist combatants and two armored vehicles.

The Islamic State’s latest offensive in Deir Ezzor was geared to take the pressure off their retreating forces in central Syria; however, they failed to achieve anything from this attack.
