BEIRUT, LEBANON (11:00 P.M.) – The Islamic State (ISIL) has suffered several setbacks in the Deir Ezzor Governorate recently, as Syrian Arab Army (SAA) troops continue to liberate large swathes of territory along the Euphrates River Valley.
On Friday morning, the Islamic State attempted to alleviate the pressure on their forces in the town of Al-Shoulah by launching a large assault on the Syrian Arab Army’s defenses in the Panorama area of western Deir Ezzor.
ISIL terrorists began their assault by storming the Syrian Arab Army’s posts near the Panorama School; this resulted in a series of intense clashes that are still ongoing at the moment.
According to a military source in the provincial capital of Deir Ezzor, the Syrian Arab Army’s Al-Qassem Group of the Republican Guard has managed to repel all of the terrorist group’s infiltration attempts thus far; however, the Islamic State has refused to give-up on the assault.
With the Syrian Arab Army already at the western outskirts of Al-Shoulah, the Islamic State forces in the Panorama area could find themselves as the next target of the government units in western Deir Ezzor.
