BEIRUT, LEBANON (4:05 P.M.) – The Islamic State (ISIL) launched a new attack against the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the northern countryside of Deir Ezzor on Tuesday, striking the latter’s positions at a base near the Al-Kubar area.
ISIL’s attack in the Al-Kubar area would catch the Kurdish forces off-guard, forcing them to withdraw from the base in order to avoid suffering anymore casualties.
According to the Islamic State’s official media wing, their forces killed at least five Kurdish “PKK” fighters at this military base in northern Deir Ezzor, while also capturing a small cache of light and medium weapons.
Recently, the Islamic State has enjoyed an influx of fighters in the Deir Ezzor countryside, as they move their capital from Al-Raqqa to the desert city of Al-Mayadeen.
