BEIRUT, LEBANON (2:30 P.M.) – The Iraqi military has recently stepped-up their operations against the Islamic State (ISIS) terror organization in a bid to clear the Syrian border once and for all.
Beginning with their border guards, the Iraqi military was able to foil an infiltration attempt by two Islamic State militants that were attempting to cross into the Al-Qa’im District from the Syrian province of Deir Ezzor this morning, a security source was quoted by Iraq News.
“Security forces managed to kill the two men as they were trying to sneak from Syrian territories into the desert of Al-Qa’im in western Anbar,” the source told Iraqi news website Basnews.
Meanwhile, at another border area, Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units (Hashd Al-Sha’abi) reported that their troops eliminated scores of Islamic State terrorists during an operation this morning.
The Iraqi paramilitary did not specify where the attack took place, but several activists reported of intense ground operations near the Al-Rutbah Crossing.
