BEIRUT, LEBANON (4:20 P.M.) – The Iraqi security forces on Sunday, the seizure of a small cargo vehicle equipped with platforms to launch Katyusha missiles north of the capital, Baghdad.
A statement from the security forces said: “Based on the urgent directive to conduct an intelligence effort to follow up on those working to target the camps of the Iraqi security forces, our forces were able today to seize a vehicle equipped with Katyusha missile launchers, specifically in the Al-Rashidiyah area, near the oil company, in the Baghdad Governorate.”
“While approaching them, two rockets were fired automatically, and they fell in a remote area with no significant losses. The vehicle was controlled and all the remaining missiles were seized,” they continued.
They would add that “our forces were able to obtain important information leading to the knowledge of those who perpetrated this terrorist act.”
This seizure came just a day after an unknown group fired Katyusha missiles at the Taji Airbase, which hosts the U.S. forces, north of Baghdad.
